On 2 September 2024 we wrote to the Hon the Premier Steven Miles and to all Queensland Parliamentarians to seek multi-partisan support for reform of Queensland’s siloed and ineffective social and criminal justice systems that condemn significant numbers of children and adults from First Nations and other disadvantaged communities to life in the criminal justice system.
There is also the issue of significant lifelong impact on many victims of serious crime and the billions of dollars misallocated to ineffective responses to crime. An example of this is the terrible recidivism rates from juvenile and adult prisons, thus by failing to rehabilitate offenders, these institutions create more crime.
Our correspondence with the Premier and Parliamentarians can be viewed here – (Download Letter to Queensland Premier 2nd Sept 2024.pdf)
Also relevant to empowerment of First Nations people to overcome their disadvantaged circumstances and their overrepresentation in the criminal justice system is our submission to the Queensland Government of 30 September 2022. (Download First Nations Justice Reform 30 Sept 22.pdf)
If you support our proposals and recommendations to the Queensland Government to empower First Nations people to improve their circumstances and reduce their terrible overrepresentation in the criminal justice system and in prisons, please contact the Premier of Queensland and or your local Member of Parliament.
