We have a track record in innovation in corrections, including a unique model to reduce the overrepresentation in prisons of First Nation people.

We are highly experienced in providing independent expert witness reports for lawyers representing plaintiffs or defendants.

We offer a service to Corrections Agencies where we provide an independent assessment of cases of employees who have action in-train for damages that can result in early settlement with significant cost savings for the agency. These assessments are to a standard that meets Uniform Civil Procedure Rules.

Knowledge Consulting has been at the forefront of working in co-design with First Nations Elders to create initiatives where First Nations communities are empowered to own and deliver community
services and establish enterprises to significantly reduce their people’s incarceration rates.

First Nations people say that a critical factor in the overrepresentation of our people in prisons and the criminal justice system is that since colonisation our culture, our identity and spiritual beliefs, vital to our identity and survival, have been disrespected and replaced by culturally inappropriate European norms. Our families and communities have been disempowered inflicting shocking social and economic outcomes on our people and our gross overrepresentation in prisons.

It is shameful that billions of dollars are spent on prison cells rather than recognising that crime will be reduced by funding initiatives where local communities are empowered to drive culturally appropriate social and economic development with training for jobs for people to aspire to, thus creating stronger healthier families who nurture their children and engage in prosocial activities.

Knowledge Consulting is currently working with three Queensland First Nations Communities to design culturally appropriate local empowerment models that will drive community renewal. A roll out of this approach across Australia will see major progress towards Closing the Gap aspirations.
